Norfolk County Council’s Trading Standards team does a whole host of things to keep the people of Norfolk safe. Now they’re even looking out for you when you’re tucked up in bed. Stephen Maunder from Trading Standards tells us more.
Electric blankets are great for warming up quickly when you go to bed in the chilly winter nights. But how old is your electric blanket? If you’re struggling to remember when you bought it, getting it safety checked is a good idea.
And the good news is you can have this done for free next week as we’ll be running a number of free safety check roadshows across the county.
Last year 53% of blankets we tested failed the safety checks, so if you or family members use one then it really is worth getting it tested. We’re happy to test as many blankets as you like, whether on behalf of family, neighbours or friends.
And the even better news is, you won’t be left shivering in bed and out of pocket if your electric blanket is found to be potentially unsafe. This year we’re making sure some good comes from crime by using money we have seized from criminals to buy new blankets to replace those that fail our tests.
At our events in Norwich, Fakenham, Wymondham, Hunstanton, Swaffham and Cromer we will test the blanket while you wait.
You have to book an appointment in advance, by calling 0344 800 8020 – you will need to make it clear how many blankets you are bringing along so we know how many we’re dealing with on the day and can ensure we can get through them all. This year’s Great Yarmouth roadshow is already full, so they can be really busy days for us.
We‘re also running ‘drop-off’ sessions in the following areas, where you can leave blankets with us and we will take them away for testing, before returning them at a later date.
Drop-off sessions are taking place in:
King’s Lynn, Costessey, Downham Market, Thorpe St Andrew, Thetford, Taverham, Dereham, Wells-next-the-sea, Watton, Aylsham, Diss and Martham.
